Kathleen McGuff and John Purnode both began their Buddy Up Tennis journeys as Buddies in middle school in Columbus, OH. Over the years, the two grew into Assistant Coaches and continued to play integral roles at our Columbus Clinics. This Summer, John and Kathleen served as our two traveling Buddy Up Summer Camp Coaches. Kathleen and John are both college juniors playing on their college tennis teams-they brought their love for tennis, expertise from learning from our Columbus Coaches, and passion for working with our Athletes to each of our four Buddy Up Summer Camps.

Highlight of the Summer: I have thoroughly enjoyed my summer experience traveling with Buddy Up Summer Camp. The highlight of my summer would be meeting the different Athletes, Buddies and Parents in the various cities and seeing the impact that Buddy Up Tennis has made on so many lives. My favorite memories of the camps are the great big smiles on so many of the Athletes’ faces throughout each camp day. Whenever I hear the words Grand Rapids, Sarasota, or Naperville I will think of all my new friends.
“Buddy Up Tennis has grown my confidence so much. When I started as a Buddy, I was shy and as I grew and became a Coach, my confidence grew as well. I’m so grateful for this program because of how it is changing so many lives and has brought many wonderful people into my own life.” ~Coach Kathleen

Highlight of the Summer: My favorite part of being a Buddy Up Summer Camp Coach was making new friends-with both the Athletes and Buddies! We had so many fun experiences with each location, but if I had to pick a highlight, it would be working with our Athletes in Naperville at the Ultimate Ninjas Gym!
“From our Athletes, I learned so much. But most importantly our Athletes taught me that when you give your best effort and stay positive, you can achieve anything!” ~Coach John
