Foundational Learning for Everyday Independence
1-year-long program recommended for Students who benefit from alternative communication strategies, visual supports, and experiential learning rather than traditional reading- or language-based instruction. Students build cooking, finance, and technology skills to support greater independence in daily life.
Adaptive Instruction and Individualized Support
Experienced special educators lead the classes. Activities focus on repetition, routine, and hands-on engagement. Buddies provide individualized support and skill reinforcement.
Buddy Up Core Concepts is currently only offered in Columbus, OH. Check with our Columbus chapter for specific class times and session details!
Course Topics
Course placement is subject to instructor discretion.
Learn kitchen safety, use common tools and ingredients, assemble simple meals, and follow visual or step-based recipes.
Identify different forms and values of money through counting and practicing simulated shopping situations.
Introduce core apps to enable functional living skills like checking the weather, scanning QR codes, and editing photos.
