The Lorain community of Athletes and Buddies is a tight knit one. Audrey and Carollyn, two of these strong Buddy Up Tennis team members, dedicated their Summer nights to sharing the Buddy Up Tennis mission with their community. Athlete, Audrey and Buddy, Carollyn participated in the Walking on Wednesdays community event and ran a Buddy Up Tennis booth each month. The Walking on Wednesdays events in Amherst, OH is a monthly event on Wednesday evenings during the summer in which local vendors and organizations can share their products, services, and missions. Buddy Up Tennis Lorain’s involvement was truly a team effort as the Costilow family and Amherst cinema donated a year long movie pass to be raffled, and the two Coordinators, Cheryl Costilow and Carol Shinsky worked together to organize the booth each month. The Lorain team raised $1000 over the course of the summer through raffles and donations.

Not only did this event allow Buddy Up Tennis Lorain to raise funds to keep their Athletes on the courts throughout the year, they also spread the word about our program to their Amherst community. With the Fall Session kicking off early this month, the Lorain team gained momentum from the support of their local community.

This was a bittersweet series of Wednesdays for the Lorain Location because they were saying goodbye to one of their most dedicated Buddies, Carollyn, who “has been with us every minute of the way, she will be greatly missed,” says Lorain Coordinators, Carol and Cheryl. There was no better team to share the spirit of Buddy Up Tennis with the Amherst community, “Audrey worked all summer and was a great salesperson!” says Costilow.
