The Carlene Weaver Achievement Award, named after a Summit County advocate who was instrumental in the creation of the County Board of Developmental Disabilities nearly 50 years ago, was awarded to Todd Eisinger. Eisinger was born with Down syndrome and is a Special Olympian, volunteer, advocate and owner of Inspires 2 Aspire greeting cards. Inspires 2 Aspire greeting cards cards are meant to educate and inspire the recipient when the sender is at a loss for words. As the company’s website explains, the sale of the cards supports Einsinger’s efforts to live independently.

Eisinger received his award at the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board’s Inaugural Appreciation Breakfast and Awards Celebration in Akron.

The breakfast and ceremony was the final event  in a month of activities recognizing Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. At the event, Eisinge  stated, “For over 10 years, I have been proud to work with [Summit DD] to raise awareness about our abilities, not disabilities. I want the world to be a better place to live, work and play.”
