Buddy Up Tennis celebrated our 10th invitation to the Western & Southern Open with our exciting second Adaptive Team Challenge event on August 18, 2019. 40 Athletes, 25 Buddies, 7 Location Coordinators, and 15 Coaches from Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton and Louisville, united on the courts to compete for the Team Cup!
Based on the success of last year’s event, Buddy Up Tennis Adaptive Team Challenge serves as a pilot format for the United States Tennis Association (USTA). We designed our Team Challenge to focus on character development, fitness, and tennis activities, serving three different levels of play. Athletes earn points individually, based on sportsmanship, effort, spirit, and individual challenges, as well as through team competitions.
Founder and President Beth Gibson shared, “Getting together on the courts at the Western and Southern has always been a highlight for us; however, by creating the team challenge format, we are able to bring together even more Athletes, Buddies and Coaches from different locations. The energy, passion and excitement on our courts is truly contagious, and was felt by everyone at the tournament.”
For 90 minutes in 95 degrees, our Athletes warmed up their tennis skills, competed in tennis drills, cooled off in water games, showcased their tennis abilities, and competed in relay races. The Team Challenge ended with Tug of War, a Buddy Up Tennis favorite. Team Dayton took home the 2019 Team Cup, but the entire Western and Southern Open felt the energy from all four of the Buddy Up Tennis Locations! See you on the courts in 2020!
