“Expect More”: How one Student Athlete embodies Buddy Up for Life’s philosophy every day

Angelina D’Alberto stays busy with Buddy Up for Life. This fall alone, she participates in 6 different classes!

On the Health & Wellness side, Angelina is staying active this season with Buddy Up Tennis, Pickleball, and Cardio & Core.

Meanwhile, she is sharpening her Life Skills with Cooking, Communication, and Technology for Life.

Angelina, 21, is a long-time fixture at Buddy Up for Life. She started over a decade ago with tennis, and she has participated in nearly every program since.

“Angelina has been all in for years and years,” said her mother Sharon. “She didn’t have a lot of opportunities for social interaction and friendship circles when she was growing up, but this has been consistent for a long time and great for her well-being. Throughout her life, this is what she knows the most.”

Angelina has picked up a wide variety of skills over the years including knife skills, basic first aid, and social skills.

“I was so hesitant to let her use a knife at first…but now she can do that, boil water, make eggs, and all kinds of other things,” said Sharon. “It’s been great to see.”

When asked about her favorite program, Angelina cited Cooking for Life.

“Cooking is the best. I like making chicken and rice and gluten free things,” said Angelina.

On the whole, Buddy Up for Life continues to make a lasting and holistic impact on Angelina.

“I am so glad she has something to look forward to nearly every day,” said Sharon. “I’ve never had a day where Angelina has said, ‘I don’t want to go.’”

”She grew up with it. It’s a part of her.”
