February 22nd, 2025, was a night of pure magic and unforgettable moments for Buddy Up for Life, our supporters, volunteers, and Athletes/Students. The 10th Annual Buddy Up for Life Gala, themed “Diamonds Are Forever,”dazzled with over 450 attendees. This spectacular evening shone a spotlight on the true gems of the night – our Athletes and Students – whose strength, resilience, and brilliance mirror the timeless beauty and enduring value of diamond. And just as diamonds are shaped under pressure, our Athletes have grown, thrived, and shone brightly in ways that inspire all who cross their paths.
This event was nothing short of extraordinary, featuring a glamorous silent auction, inspiring speeches, and powerful fundraising efforts to support our Athletes. From its humble beginnings with just one coach and one Athlete, Buddy Up for Life has sparked a movement that, much like the allure and lasting impact of diamonds, continues to shine brightly across communities.
The evening was electrified by the dynamic presence of MC Scott Light from Lighthouse Productions, who crafted an enthusiastic and thrilling atmosphere, keeping the energy high and the crowd engaged. Following Scott, Scott Barbour from Advanced Drainage Systems took the stage with a deeply moving speech, sharing his personal journey with Buddy Up for Life. His heartfelt words highlighted his unwavering commitment to the organization and the profound impact it has had on his and his family’s life.
Next up, Executive Director and Founder, Beth Gibson, delivered a powerful address that drew a parallel between the qualities of diamonds and the core values of Buddy Up for Life. She spoke of brilliance, clarity, resilience, strength, beauty, and purity – attributes that are not only found in diamonds but also in the hearts of our Athletes and community. Beth then reflected on the remarkable journey of Buddy Up for Life, sharing how far we’ve come since our humble beginnings. She highlighted the expansion of the Buddy Up Life Skills program and proudly noted that BU Pickleball has become our fastest-growing initiative, now with seven chapters nationwide. With enthusiasm, Beth outlined our Pillars of Impact, showcasing the broad reach of our programs and the growing number of weekly classes – over 12 in the current session – demonstrating the organization’s ongoing commitment to providing unparalleled opportunities for our Athletes.
Following an insightful introduction to BUFL from Beth, the stage was turned over to the true stars of the evening: our Athlete Speakers.
Each speaker shared a powerful reflection on one of the Diamond Attributes. Erin Zimpfer beautifully defined “Pure” as being “free from judgement, prejudice and exclusion”—exactly what she found upon joining Buddy Up for Life. Next, Seamus Ginnane explored the word “Unique,” applying it to three parts of his life: his work, his family, and his fitness. Avery Grady then lit up the room with her message on being “Radiant,” sharing how her Buddy Up friends make the world a much brighter place. Finally, Will Gibson concluded the segment with a powerful testimony on being “Resilient,” describing how he has embodied that word throughout his life, consistently showing up and proving his true potential even when others doubted him.
The inspiration continued with an unforgettable musical performance. The incredible Conspiracy Band brought this year’s theme song, “Diamonds” by Rihanna, to life. The stage was filled with joy as groups of Athletes and Students danced, and soon the entire audience was singing along in a powerful chorus!
